RSD's Refugee Week events - thank you for coming!

Our Refugee Week event on 24 June was a huge success - thanks to everyone involved, especially the performers and musicians that took part. A special thanks to Azad Ozgur, Eduardo Merino Polo, Ludmila Centurion (in the photo, dancing with her traditional dress), Valentina Alba and Giorgia Ciampi (the trio from Canta Nina), Shumba Arts, the Hong Kongers' dancers, the Ukrainian singers, Extinction Rebellion samba band, the Kurdish children dancers group and several of our asylum seekers that performed songs and dances from their heritage throughout the day. Thanks also to our friends at Devon County Council, who provided generous financial support. You can read their report on it and other Refugee Week events in Devon here!

RSD staff and volunteers organised and attended other events during Refugee Week, including two film screenings at Exeter Phoenix: On 17 June 'On Our Doorstep', a documentary highlighting the resilience of refugees and volunteers in the Calais "Jungle", was shown and followed by a Q&A with director Thomas Laurance, led by RSD Trustee Ruth Grove-White (pictured below).

Then on 20 June 'Limbo,' a wry and poignant observation of the refugee experience, set on a fictional remote Scottish island was shown, followed by a discussion (below) involving RSD Manager Rupert Blomfield, RSD Trustee Shehany Warnakulasuriya, Neli Montes De Oca from Bristol Law Centre and RSD client Mansoor.

Our thanks to everyone who participated in these screenings, and to RSD's drop-in coordinator Valentina Todino for organising them.

We hope to post further Refugee Week reports soon so please watch this space!
